Sunday Review - Week 2 - Get Comfortable Doing the Uncomfortable
Jan 14, 2018Once, there was a young martial arts student. He was at an Aikido dojo, and he watched his Sensei, his teacher, sparring with another accomplished fighter. He was very impressed and he walked up to his master, saying.
“Master, you never lose your balance. What is the secret?”
His sensei answered him, “You are wrong, my child. I am constantly losing my balance. My skill lies in my ability to regain my balance, over and over again.”
We lose our balance all the time. Every day, we strive on doing what’s uncomfortable.
This week, our challenge is to rebuild our website, create, setup, and promote an online program. Although we are experienced entrepreneurs, what we’re doing is still new to both of us. And we learn together, discuss the ins and outs, ups and downs of this new endeavor that we are pursuing this year.
So in our weekly review this week, we’re going to talk about getting uncomfortable. You see, everything that you want is outside your comfort zone. So for you to achieve anything, you must get uncomfortable. In fact, get into the habit of getting uncomfortable. Learn to love being uncomfortable. It is the only way we can grow, we can excel, and become a better person.
Think of a time in your life when you overcame a major physical or mental challenge.
Maybe that was finishing grad school. Starting a new business. Or trying a new activity that scared you, like Skydiving? Or maybe walk up to talk to this girl that caught your eye?
Remember how difficult that challenge was?
How uncomfortable you felt?
How you wanted to quit a thousand times in the middle of it?
Now think about the person you became afterwards.
Thanks to that challenge, you became stronger, wiser, more insightful, more experienced, more successful, more appreciated, and more beloved.
Above all, you can point to that challenge and say:
I survived that. I did that. I have accomplished that challenge.
Hold on to that feeling. That feeling will keep you motivated, get you moving forward.
We need discomfort and challenge in order to grow, improve, and change.
Without discomfort, we’d stay the same, without progress, without growth.
In order to lose fat, sometimes you’ll be a bit hungry.
In order to transform your body, sometimes you’ll be a little uncomfortable.
In order to have financial freedom, sometimes you have to let go of a little bit of luxury.
It’s just a part of the journey.
For us, we’re frequently reviewing how we spend our time together. We’ve made plenty of mistakes and have fight over a lot of things. But we learn from our mistakes and we grow because of our failures. And, most importantly, we celebrate our victories.
Until next time, Love what you live, Live what you love.
