How’s your gut treating you today?

Your gut can make you happy and it can make you cranky. Your gut may affect your emotions without you ever knowing it. Do you wonder how that happens?

This week we have been quoting excerpts from our free downloadable e-book Gut Matters that is available now and you can get your own copy. We’ve already talked about the gut brain connection, how your gut and your brain talks and replies to each other, and that’s how your gut can affect your mood also. We’ve also talked about microbiomes and how it heavily impacts your overall health.

Today, we’ll tell you more about gut problems. You’ll want to stay with us because we are going to tell you the 6 factors that influences inflammation in your body. And inflammation is pretty much the culprit of almost all chronic diseases.

We are the Foolish Couple, Andy and Minna. We believe that healthy relationships start with health and our goal is to help people achieve true health and healthy relationships through nutrition, exercises, mindset and lifestyle.

Let’s talk about the 6 factors that influences inflammation in our body. We can’t talk about inflammation inside our body without first talking about our diet. Specifically, the Standard American Diet, or the SAD diet for short.

The SAD diet looks like this:

  • It is high in unhealthy fats
  • Low in Fiber
  • High in processed foods
  • High in simple carbohydrates
  • Low in plant based foods

When we eat a diet like the SAD diet everyday, our body is constantly in fight or flight mode, causing tremendous inflammation in our bodies.

And of course, we can’t talk about our diet without talking about SUGARS, which is the most addictive substance on this planet that no one is talking about. Sugars and refined flour conditions our brain in much the same way as cocaine and heroin. So it is truly an addiction that everyone should be aware of.

And then, there are processed foods. The stuff that our generation grew up with, the stuff that appeared to be so convenient and delicious yet, is a silent killer to our bodies.

We can’t forget about big agriculture. Farming is big business. It is now mostly done by big machines and grown with tremendous amounts of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and weed killers. Digesting all these foreign chemicals causes inflammation inside our bodies because our bodies simply don’t recognize or know what to do with these chemicals.

Lately, there is a lot of talk about how sitting is the new smoking. And sitting is really becoming a way of life for so many of us. We sit at our job 8 hours a day, sit in our car for another hour to get home, and then we go home and sit for another few hours in front of the TV. This level of physical inactivity is causing huge problems to our health as well.

Another biggie that is giving all of us inflammation is stress. Our modern day lifestyle causes us a lot of stress and it has some negative effects to our microbiome, which, you know by now, is a community of good microbes that is working to keep our bodily systems healthy. So when we get stressed, our microbiomes go out of balance and becomes problematic.

We can’t talk about gut problems without talking about leaky gut right.

What is leaky gut?

Leaky gut is also called intestinal permeability, which is damage to the intestinal lining. And antibiotics, processed foods, chronic inflammation, or alcohol can cause this. So when your intestinal lining is impaired, it cannot do its job of filtering nutrients and other biological substances. The result is that undigested foods and waste products would also go into your bloodstream. And that causes anxiety, food sensitivity, fatigue, brain fog, and muscle and joint pain. That’s leaky gut.

The book also talks about how your gut health matters even when you are only a baby, and how it continues to affect your mental health and your mood throughout your life. So if you know someone who has a newborn or just had a baby, make sure you forward this to them so that they can also read the book also. From what I heard, babies with healthy guts cries a lot less than other babies. So it is definitely worthwhile for them to read up on this.

Next time, we’re going to talk about the 4R’s, which is the ways to optimize your digestion and what you can do to improve your gut health.

Until next time, love what you live, and live what you love.
