Just how bad is this coronavirus pandemic?

In our last blog, we talked about the ABC of how to protect yourself from the coronavirus. A is for avoidance, b is for biohacks and C is for counter-measure.

Where we stand today, if you have been following the news about the CoVid-19, you’d probably agree that avoidance is a moot point. We are now at over 88,000 confirmed cases spreading over 60 countries. (as of March 1st, 2020)

Within 1 day, Italy has a 50% increase in coronavirus cases in Italy. The number of infected cases grew from 1128 to 1694 within 1 day. There are now 23 community spread cases in the US and these cases are not directly linked to people who have traveled to Japan or China.

If you live in California, like we do, then allow us to draw you to the latest study on “Which States are Least Ready for Pandemic”. In this study, California is rated as one of the top 5 states in the US that is least prepared for a pandemic, such as the spread of the Covid-19 that we are in right now. If you want to see where your state rank in this study, we have included the link here so that you can go take a look for yourself.

Who does the coronavirus target?

I think it is pretty safe to say that this virus originated from Wuhan, China. But patient zero was back in December last year. Since then, not only Chinese are infected, Indians, Italians, Iranians, Canadians, Singaporeans, Japanese, basically people everywhere are infected. We’re seen some violence targeted against Asian Americans in our country, but I can assure you that the coronavirus does not discriminate. It doesn’t matter what nationality or ethnicity you are, what gender you are, or hold old or young you are. The virus doesn’t pick and choose. It just spreads and infects everybody.

3 things you must do now to prepare for the imminent coronavirus pandemic

What we mentioned in our last blog still holds true. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, stay away from sick people if you can and keep your immune system strong.

But, doesn’t matter how safe you try to be, you may still run into someone that was infected, at work, at a restaurant, a movie theater, the grocery store, or any public place. And just in case it gets to a point where you need to stay confined in your home for 2 weeks or longer. Here’s the 3 things you must do now to prepare for those situations.

Stock up on clean foods and water

We’re already seeing the people clearing out the shelves at Costco and Walmart. People are stocking up on toilet paper, ramen, spam, and bottle water. Now, I agree that we should be prepared. Especially if you live in the earthquake zone like we are. We really should be prepared for disaster regardless of whether it is a virus or something else. But, stocking up on spam and ramen is not the best for you. Sure, they may keep you full, and they have a really long shelf live. But these kind of highly processed foods has no nutrition at all and causes inflammation inside your body. Which means these foods will actually lower your immune system, which will make you more susceptible to the virus.

Instead, stock up on frozen, organic foods, bone broth, and clean water. Now is a good time to install a reverse osmosis water filtration system if you don’t already have one.

For us, we stock up on a specific protein powder. Because it gives us the proper amounts of protein, fats, and fiber that we need. It is easy to store and we can bring them anywhere. I can tell you that when we travel, we bring our protein powders with us.

Just for kicks. If you really are unprepared and you got nothing at home. Don’t panic. Chances are that you have enough stored body fat to get you through the 2 or even 4 weeks without eating anything. We do 5 to 10 day fasts every 3 to 6 months. And all we need is water during our fast. The world fasting record is over 300 days. So, this may be your best chance to put your body into ketosis and start burning body fat. Hey, if you gotta make something good out of a bad situation, this is it!

Boost your immune system

Fun fact. February 28th was Linus Pauling day. Who is he? You may ask. Dr. Linus Pauling is something known as the father of vitamins. He wrote a book, decades ago, called How to Live Longer and Feel Better, where is says that if you want your body to work optimally, and protect yourself from chronic diseases, boost lung function and maximize your immunity, then you need at least 1000mg of Vitamin C.

A standard, medium sized orange has about 70mg of vitamin C. Which means, if you are to have optimal levels of vitamin C, then you need to eat 14 oranges every day.

Of course, you can also get Vitamin C from lemon, lime, mandarins, grapefruits, guava, strawberries, papaya, pineapples, kiwi, sweet green pepper, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts.

But for us, even though we do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, we still rely on our vitamin C supplement to make sure that we are in optimal health. And the fact that we have not had the flu in over 7 years tells us that we are doing something right.

If you are experiencing flu symptoms, you should definitely get it checked out. But also, bump your Vitamin C intake to 3000 or even 50000 mg a day. It is the best way to shield your body and fight off any viruses.

For those doubters out there, here’s a story of a New Zealand man a few years ago. He caught something, and was taken to hospital. And over the next few weeks, he just gets worse, his lungs are failing and the doctors could not figure out what was wrong with him. They gave him all types of medication and treatment and nothing worked. Finally, on his death bed, when the hospital was about to pull the plug, the grudgingly agreed to give him intravenous Vitamin C because the family has been begging the hospital to just try giving him Vitamin C and see if it works. And, guess what, where medication fails, vitamin C comes to the rescue! It worked! Within a few days, this man is up and running, as if he has never been sick. Is vitamin C a miracle drug? To this man, it is. So here’s the link to the you-tube video if you’re interested.

Get well rested

At times where we are in fight or flight mode, it is especially difficult to get well rested. But it is during our sleep that our body recovers and work its magic to fight off diseases. So really, try to get a good night sleep.

It may help to bring down the temperature in your bedroom, because our body tends to be more rested in cooler atmosphere. Keep your bedroom dark, and keep your cell phones and wi-fi equipment outside the bedroom. There are more and more long term studies coming out about how wifi and EMF are hurting us and making us sick. Melatonin is a good supplement to take to help you sleep better.

All right, go stock up on clean foods and water, take a lot of vitamin C, and make sure you get good quality sleep. I hope to have better news for you next time. Make sure you stay health and safe!

Until next time, love what you live, and live what you love.
