Benefits of Fermented Dairy

Heart attacks, strokes and cancer, these are all diseases that we never want to have or even want to hear about. Yet more and more people are getting them every day. You certainly don’t want to be one of these people, but you probably know deep down inside, your chances aren’t all that great.

And the reason behind more and more people getting these incurable diseases are all because of one thing. Now I talked about it during my True Cellular Detox webinar, and I’ve explained what the three largest sources of toxins that are causing Cellular Inflammation are and how they may cause many of these major, epidemic diseases that we are so afraid of.

How do you know if you have cellular inflammation? A normal blood test probably isn’t enough to show you the whole picture. But we have a specific test that is 50 times more accurate than a blood test. We talked about this test in our webinar that happened over the weekend but I have another one coming up soon, so make sure that you sign up here for my next webinar.

As a functional nutrition specialist, my passion is to show you how you can use your own body’s innate healing powers to keep your body healthy and to hopefully stay as far away from any of these horrible diseases as possible.

One of the foods that has had a lot of debate about over the last few years is dairy products. Is it good? Is it bad? Should you drink fat free, 2%, whole milk, organic, grass-fed, or should you drink any type of milk at all? That’s what I’m going to talk about today in this episode.

I want to focus specifically on fermented dairy products. Fermented dairy products like yogurt and kefir is not the latest health food trend. In fact, they have been around for many many years. Warm raw milk from cows, sheep’s, goats, camels and even horses was naturally preserved by common strains of bacteria such as streptococcus and lactobacillus. These strains of bacteria helped to preserve the fresh milk for several days to weeks without refrigeration by slowing down spoilage and killing pathogenic organisms.

Today, fermenting milk is not only to preserve it longer, but fermented dairy or what is now called “cultured dairy” actually has many health benefits over regular raw milk.

When you add lactobacillus to raw milk, the milk naturally sours and the lactose or sugar in the milk is converted to lactic acid, preserving the milk. In the process it kills bad bacteria and helps build beneficial enzymes, vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids and other probiotics that is extremely helpful to our gut.

But what if you are lactose intolerant? Well, the good news is, even if you normally can’t drink milk or eat ice cream because you are lactose intolerant, cultured dairy products may be an option for you since they have very low to no levels of lactose since it is converted to lactic acid.

Even more good news.

Recent studies show that fermented dairy products reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and even cancer.

Yogurt has shown to decrease both bladder cancer and colorectal cancer while cheese has shown to decrease colectoral cancer. Both yogurt and cheese has been shown to reduce cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.

So, when consuming fermented dairy, we help our digestive system by adding beneficial bacteria to our large intestine balancing the good and bad bacteria. It also has other vitamins and nutrients such as vitamin C and E which help with common digestive issues such as bloating, diarrhea and gas.

Before you rush out to the grocery store and look for yogurts and cheeses, here are my favorites:

Yogurt is the biggest craze right now. It is a quick and easy way to get healthy probiotics into your diet by stirring some fresh berries into it.

I like Kefirs too. Not too many people know about these, but they are drinkable yogurts and they are super yummy.

I also like milk cheese and raw cheese that has not been pasteurized or processed. I am not talking about the Kraft singles that I grew up on, those square, thin pieces of cheese that we put into our ham and cheese sandwiches. That’s not good cheese.

When choosing yogurts and kefirs, be sure that you choose plain, unsweetened and organic.

Many of the yogurts and kefirs on the market have more sugar content then a can of soda to make them tastier. So, make sure it is unsweetened and plain.

And make sure it says has Live cultures, since a lot of the Yogurts and Kefirs are sterilized which can kill the bacteria, in which guess what you are eating dead bacteria that has no benefits.

Why do I insist on buying organic? Look, I know that organic foods tend to cost more, but there is a good reason for it. We are now starting to hear about all these class action lawsuits about Roundups. And the main ingredient in Roundup is Glyphosate.

And if your foods are not organic, it is highly likely that it contains glyphosate, or antibiotics and other toxins.

As for cheeses, choose the raw cheese in the cheese section in your supermarket, there are many varieties, from soft cheeses such as brie and camembert to harder cheeses such as gouda, cheddar or parmesan. The longer a cheese is aged the harder and dryer it gets as more lactic acid is formed, so therefore if you are lactose intolerant, go for the more aged and harder cheeses.

Never ever buy the pasteurized processed cheese that come in prepackaged slices or shredded. These processed cheeses has an indefinite shelf life and has all sorts of other ingredients such as emulsifying agents, coloring, added flavors, fruit, vegetables, or even meat.

Processed cheese is not healthy for you and can actually cause health issues.

Even though fermented dairy products are helpful to preventing cardiovascular and cancer, many people may still steer away from dairy products and fermented dairy products because they are told that they either lactose intolerant or think that they are lactose intolerant.

This may not be the case, the digestive issues you are experiencing can be sensitivity to Glyphosate and the other toxins that are found in conventional dairy and fermented dairy products.

If you are lactose intolerant and you do want to try fermented dairy products, try buying organic varieties and see if that still gives you digestive issues, such as gas, bloating or diarrhea. If it doesn’t, then maybe it’s the toxins that you are sensitive to and not actually the lactose. You may also want to try the harder, more aged cheeses as they will have no more lactose in them since it’s been all converted to lactic acid.

If trying organic and you still have minor gas or digestives issues, try buying fermented dairy products that are made from sheep or goat milk. North American cows, unlike cows in Africa and Asia, produce a protein called A1 Casein. While goat and sheep milk contain A2 Casein, which is the same as what humans possess. Since our bodies were not designed to break down A1 Casein, this may be the reason why some of you may have stomach discomfort when taking Fermented dairy or any dairy products that are made from conventional cows in North America regardless if it is organic or not.

So go ahead, if you want to treat your body well, then feed your body with clean, organic, fermented dairy products. It is yummy and has tremendous health benefits and your body will thank you for it.

Tell us in the comments below which is your favorite fermented dairy product.
