What is the Secret to Happiness?
We are in crazy times, but this is also unprecedented and gives us a great opportunity to reinvent ourselves and to really do what we are meant to do.
The media has painted a vivid picture of doom and gloom. But here's a trick. If you would just stay off all news for just a few days. I know, it's hard. News is addictive. You want to know what's going on with the world. But I promise you that if you stay away from the news for even just a few days. Your perspective would change. You will feel different. You will feel the gratitude about your situation, you become more hopeful, happy, and ready to change your life for the better.
It is OK to have dreams and goals, it is OK to want more, to have more. Because when we have more, we can give more to others who needed our help.
Let's take a pause and think about success. Is that what you want? Do you want to be successful? Do you want to be a success amongst your friends? More importantly, would it make you happy to be successful? What and where do you want to succeed in?
We all want to be happy. But do you know what the secret to happiness is? We've all known of people who seemed to have everything and yet they are depressed. Robin Williams, Kate Spade. These are people who appeared to have everything and are on top of the world, yet they are not happy.
Whenever you do something, did that INSPIRE or EXPIRE you?
Also there is a difference between being happy in the moment, versus living a truly joyful, fulfilling life. To be momentarily happy, it may be just to eat a piece of chocolate. In fact, that is pretty much why we tend to overeat and over indulge.
To be truly joyful and fulfilling, the secret, is this. What you really need, and it is true for all humans, is progress, or GROWTH. Your life need to move forward, heading towards a specific goal and you need to take the steps towards your ultimate destination. That's what keeps you going day after day, that's what's going to give you the enjoyment and the fulfillment and keep you truly happy.
Happiness is not a destination, it's not about where you're at, and what you've achieved. Happiness is about your movement in life. It is something that you chase after. You need to learn something new, do something that challenge yourself every day to keep you truly happy and fulfilled.
The happiest people in the world don't wait for permission to create the life they want - they don't want for someone to create it for them. They go and create the life they want themselves.
Every step you take is an action. And you need to be able to face your fears, which is what we talked about last week, and take action anyways. Because if you want to be truly happy, if you want a joyful and fulfilling life, action is key.
So ask yourself: How do you find unprecedented opportunities and achieve extraordinary results?
Until next time, love what you live, and live what you love.
