Defining your New Normal 17 - Life lessons this Year

Hi. I’m Minna, co-founders of Foco Academy, functional health and wellness coaches. As the world starts to wake up to the new normal, a lot has changed so we are also tweaking the focus of our messaging on how to get ahead in this new environmental, this new world. We are still focusing on time, health, and relationships and we are still utilizing the same set of success principles.

As we approach Christmas and the New Year, most people would start to think about their New Year's resolution. But WAIT. Before you make your resolution, there is one key question that you must ask yourself.

I have asked this question to many people and most people don't have an answer. They usually  go with 'umm', 'uhhh', or basically just 'I don't know'.

The question is this:

What did you learn this year?

You see. The question itself is not a hard question. If you ask a kid what they learned that day from school, they would have no problem telling you.

Except that we are adults, we stopped going to school and for many people, leaving school also means that they stopped learning.

But you must continue to learn. Progress and success depends on continuous learning. And you can either learn by taking classes, reading books, getting a coach, or you can learn by failing. And the chances are, you will fail anyways, unless you don't try anything new.

So I ask you this. If your year has been the same as the year before, and the year before that, and so on. Are you happy with where you are?

Is that why you are still working the same job that you hate, worrying about money all the time, hanging out with friends you don’t' really care for, and living with the person that you used to love but lately you've just been arguing?

The truth is that, for some people, they are happy exactly where they are. And that's ok. But the way I see it, the past 2 years have changed the lives of millions of people. So if you don't keep up, if you don't continue to learn new skills and gather new knowledge, your quality of life will most likely go down quickly.

So what have I learned this year? I spent hours learning about bitcoins and cryptocurrency because I want to know what they are and how to invest in them. I've learned a lot about our financial backbone. It is just recently that I learned that the 'Federal Reserve' is actually not the government, even though they sounded like one.

When we moved to Houston from the Bay Area, I learned the true meaning of diversity. Over the past year at this new place, we've learned about more cuisines around the world. We even started learning a new language.

There is so much you can learn to make your life more exciting. Learn to play a new sport. A new language. Learn to cook, to knit, to draw. Picking up a new hobby will brighten up your life.

Learn about money because everybody needs it.

Learn how to strengthen your immune system. It is not your doctor's job to keep you healthy. It is your job and your responsibility to keep yourself healthy.

If you want to feel vibrant and energetic? Well, you can learn that too.

If you want to learn more about longevity? Not just how to extend your life span but really to be able to enjoy your life, there are people who teaches you too.

If you want a better relationship with your spouse? There are books that can help.

If you want to start a new business, there are courses to teach you.

Bottom line is, whatever it is that you feel will make your life better, you can learn it. And you should, because you never know what surprises next year will bring us.

The first step to learning is a mindset shift. Rather than making up excuses on why you can't learn, tell yourself why you MUST learn. Rather than saying you don’t' have time, or you don't have the money to learn, ask yourself, how can you find the time and money to learn this new thing? And how would this new skill and knowledge enhance your life and benefit others?

Sure. The year 2021 is almost over. And you should enjoy the holidays. 2022 is just around the corner and if you want 2022 to be the best year of your life.

We are here to guide you and nudge you to push yourself to be just a little bit better every day, to learn just a little bit more every day. Because progress is a daily practice.
