DYNN 12 - Don't take this trip

Hi. I’m Minna, co-founders of Foco Academy, functional health and wellness coaches. As the world starts to wake up to the new normal, a lot has changed so we are also tweaking the focus of our messaging on how to get ahead in this new environmental, this new world. We are still focusing on time, health, and relationships and we are still utilizing the same set of success principles.

People are traveling again. Flights are full, cruise ships are rolling back to the ocean. And taking trips is fun, right? Well, taking fun trips are fun, going to places that you want to visit, playing, relaxing, soaking up the culture, enjoying the food.

Of course there are business trips which I've had my fair share of during my consulting days. Fly out Monday morning, work through the week and fly back home Friday. And you fly to the same place week after week after week and those trips were not that much fun.

But the one trip that you should not take, that you should NEVER take, is the Guilt Trip.

Guilt is a tough one. We've all made mistakes, and to some extent, we've all hurt some people, whether we intended to or not. Some people relive their guilt day after day, it's like replaying this movie that makes you feel bad every day and that guilt become stuck to your everyday life.

My mentor Jack Canfield has a way to teach his followers how to never have to live with guilt. I have done it, and it is truly a liberating experience.

I decided to follow the last episode on diversity with this one on dealing with guilt because, as we make changes to our lives, even though we've done our best to limit the downside and to protect your family, sh*t happens. When we make a decision and that decision ended up being a bad one, we tend to feel guilty.

We ask ourselves, why did I do that? Why didn't I do something else?

And, truly, the feeling of guilt is doing no good to anyone including you. You cannot change the past, you cannot take back what you have already done. So the only thing you can do is to move forward. Learn from your mistakes and learn to make better decisions next time.

Guilt is the result of having a belief about how you should or shouldn't be and an action or inaction that violates that belief. To get rid of guilt, you must change your belief of your actions.

Remember, you cannot change your past actions, only your present and future ones.

In essence, the way to get rid of your guilt, is first, identify what action you are guilty about. And then match it to a belief that you have.

For example, good students don't play video games.

This was actually a belief that my parents imposed on me. So I believed that, if I want to be a good student, I 'SHOULD NOT' play video games.

So now that I have identified the action and the belief, what is unrealistic about that belief? About what you 'Should' or 'should not' do? And by doing so, you develop a new belief that overwrites the old one.

Like this. Good students don't play video games for hours at a time. But it is ok for a good student to use video games to relax and play for a little while.

So by redefining your belief, you now have a new belief and your guilt is lifted.

The example that I gave may be a simple one but the process is powerful. And when you join us for our focodaily program, we will go deeper into exactly how this works and how it can help you.

I hope this helps you uplift any guilt that you may have, for things that you may have said or done that you regretted.
