[The Foolish Couple are founders of the Foco Academy, nutrition specialists and success coaches. We focus on teaching Jack Canfield’s Success Principles and applying the principles to the 3 areas of life that money can’t buy, that is, Health, Time, and Love Relationship.]

It’s been 3 months since the lockdown.

Most of us are asked to stay at home and don’t come out unless we have to. And that’s a shock because, before that, we were going at 100 miles an hour, chasing that job promotion or trying to make more money or meet our goals.

All of a sudden. We come to a full stop. We turn off our engine. We are no longer chasing that goal or money or fame or whatever. Those instagram-worthy pictures are no longer necessary. There are no more ‘stories’ on Facebook that we must follow.

Sure, this pandemic has caused a lot of losses, in lives, in money, in jobs. But it gives most of us ONE thing that we all wanted, and we never had enough of.

This one thing that we all wanted and don’t have enough of, is not money, or social media followers, or invitation to popular parties and hangouts. This one thing, is TIME.

Time is the great equalizer. It doesn’t matter whether you are old or young, healthy or sick, rich or poor. We all have 24 hours a day. Yet we often complain about not having enough time to get things done.

Now we do. Now we have time.

Because there are no more commute, no more parties, no more eating out at restaurants, going to the movies, shopping, or school. Heck, even gyms are closed.

I was amazed when my millennial nephew told us that he would line up for 90 minutes outside a restaurant just to eat. To me, that is a total waste of time. But to him, that was apparently time well spent.

So let me ask you this. How have you spend your past 3 months?

3 months, that’s 90 days, 2160 hours. That’s enough time to learn a new language, pick up a new skill, or even write a book.

What have you done in those 2160 hours? Look. If your answer is that you don’t know. Now is the time to figure it out. You have already wasted 2160 hours of your life, and you don’t want to waste any more time.

If you are working at home, how productive are you with your work? If you are not working, are you taking care of your kids? And when I say take care, I don’t mean cooking and cleaning and serving your kids. I mean really nurturing and caring and educating your kids. Really spend some quality time with your kids so that when they grow up, they will remember those few months where they had a wonderful time with their parents. So that your spouse will remember these times where you give them extra tender loving care.

3 months into the lockdown, we are now ready to start our engines again. You put your key into your ignition. And then the first click, your dashboard comes to life. Your car does a self check to see if everything is working fine. Is there oil in the engine? Air in your tires? Water in your windshield wiper reservoir?

Your car does a health check when you turn it on. So should you.

Are you really healthy or are you just not too sick? If you are sick and fatigued all the time it’s like a car that’s running on flat tires. What about your relationship with your loved ones? Your kids? Does your work align with your values and your goals?

If you do a health check on your life, are you going to get some flashing lights? Which areas of your life do you need to work on? Because no matter what your answer is, now is the time to start fixing it.

So if you have already wasted 3 months of your time doing nothing. It’s time to change all that. And I can help you here with these 3 tips.

If you follow these 3 tips that I’m going to share with you here, not only will you feel that you have more time than you need, which is probably a feeling that you’ve never had, but you will be at peace, and you will be happier.

So, here’s the 3 tips that will drastically improve your productivity:

#1. Work on improving the quality of your sleep.

Without the parties and the happy hours, now you can actually set a sleep schedule. Sleep experts tell us that we should sleep at more or less the same time every day, including weekends. And everybody, including you, need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. And I’m sure that most of you are not getting enough sleep.

You may even be in bed for 9 hours but yet your sleep quality is still not good. So if you have problems falling asleep or staying asleep, here’s 3 things that you can do that may help you:

  1. Stop eating and drinking at least 3 hours before you go to sleep
  2. Keep your bedroom dark, cool, and quiet
  3. Keep your gadgets (phones, tablets, laptops, etc) outside of the bedroom.

If you do these 3 things, chances are that your sleep quality will improve, and you will wake up feeling refreshed, happy, and ready to face the world.

#2. Stay away from the news

I know people who wake up, turn on the news, and leave it on for the rest of the day. You keep hearing that same piece of shocking news over and over again. Maybe it was yesterday’s fatality rate of the coronavirus. Maybe it is that Tesla factory worker tested positive for coronavirus. Unless you plan to go to the Tesla factory, I don’t see how that piece of news is relevant to you.

The media’s no. 1 focus is to grab your attention. And the best way to grab your attention is to tell you bad news. That the sky is falling. That’s why they tell you how many people die from the coronavirus. They don’t tell you how many people recover from it, and they definitely won’t tell you how many people actually got the virus and didn’t even know that they had it until they took the antibody test.

It’s ok not to know. You may be having Facebook and Instagram withdrawal. But I promise you that you will be fine. You don’t need to know what’s happening with someone else’s life. What you need to know, is what’s happening with your own life.

So shut off the news. Go listen to an audio book instead.

#3. Boost your Immune System

The media has led us to think that they best way to stay alive is to stay home, wear a mask and don’t touch anything. Well, there is a better way. Your immune system is your best defense. Statistics show that older people and people who have pre-existing conditions have a much higher fatality rate. But that’s not the root cause. Just because you are old doesn’t mean that you will die from the virus. The root cause is that older people, and people who are diabetic, who have heart disease, cancer, respiratory diseases, and all types of health problems, is that their immune system is compromised. They are immunocompromised.

If your immune system is strong and functioning properly, it will fight off the diseases and keep you healthy. You may experience some mild symptoms for a few days and then you’ll be ok. You may not even know that you caught the virus at all if you are in optimal health.

And don’t think that if you have a health problem that there is nothing you could do about it. There are many, many people, like you, who decide to take control of their own health, change their lifestyle and turn their health around. So can you.

There is no better time to change your lifestyle. Your life has already been disrupted. It has come to a stop. Rather than going down the same path, why not change direction and get healthy?
