Defining your new normal 3 - you are not a taxi driver

#2021 #clarity #newnormal #productivity #success Jul 26, 2021

Hi. I’m Andy and I’m Minna, founders of Foco Academy, functional health and wellness coaches. As the world starts to wake up to the new normal, a lot has changed so we are also tweaking the focus of our messaging on how to get ahead in this new environmental, this new world. We are still focusing on time, health, and relationships and we are still utilizing the same set of success principles. The good news is, the success principles will always work for you if you work the principles.

Some people call this the new normal, or you may also have heard the term 'the great reset'. So what does it actually mean? What does this new normal look like, and more importantly, how do you prepare yourself and get ahead in this new era?

What does the new normal look like? If you take a step back and look at the current world with a different perspective, you'll notice, on a high level, that

  1. The people are more polarized - left vs right, blue vs red, vaccinated vs the unvaccinated, and so on.
  2. The gap between the wealthy and the poor is becoming wider, and the middle class is slowly disappearing.
  3. The people are more depressed, more distracted, sicker and angrier.

We don't like this new normal and we don't like the direction where it is heading. The good thing is, you don't have to follow the herd. What we mean is that you don't have to let the new normal define you.

You can actually define your own new normal.

Because if you don't define your new normal, you are letting someone else define your life for you.

It's like this. Imagine that you are driving a car. You need enough focus to be able to steer the car. You need to focus on the present.

But you also need to know where you are going right? Where are you heading to? You need to know where your future is so that you can steer your life in the right direction. If you don't know where you’re going, then what happens? Who drives to destinations that they don't decide for themselves? Taxi drivers, right? Taxi drivers just take people where they want to go, but really that's not their destination, is it?

If you don't know where you are heading, then you are essentially going to somebody else's destination. You are the taxi driver. Is that what you want? If not, then you need to decide what your future look like.

Make sure that you have the best version of the new normal for you, first we need to prep you. So last time I talked about your brain.

To quote one of our friends and no offense to anybody, the current situation is making people 'Fat, dumb and slow'.

So first, we need to un-dumb yourself and that is by training your brain. You can do all the crossword puzzles and sudokus as you like, but I also recommend that you do some other types of brain exercises as well. And the neurobics that I talked about last time really won't take up any extra time to implement, so why not. If you have no idea what I am talking what, here's the link to my episode on neurobics.

In this episode, I want to talk about mindset. Specifically, I want to get you to operate in a place of positivity, where you are hopeful and filled with your most vibrant dreams.

In the good old days, our lives are actually pretty quiet. We turn on the news when we want to, usually lasts about 30 minutes a day. Some people also read the newspaper and read a magazine called the Reader's Digest. Yeah. Remember that one?

Nowadays, news come flying into our face, bombarding every minute of our lives. We get notifications, dings and badges on our phones, emails and texts. It's like news just fall out of the clouds in the sky.

Here's the thing. The news media, regardless of whether they are left or right, blue or red or whatever color they are, they have one common goal. And that is, to grab your attention. Because the media is a business. The more successful they are in grabbing your attention, the better it is for their business. Not you. For them.

So the media also focus on giving you the worst piece of news they could find. And, admit it, you like bad news. Every day, there are hundreds of airplanes flying through various routes all the time. You don't hear any news on flight ABC landed JFK successfully with no incidents. But amongst thousands of flights, the one that you are aware of, is the one that had an engine failure and had to turn around and make an emergency landing. Even though that is 0.00005% of all the flights, that is the one the news they will tell you about. Because you like to hear that.

When you hear about that particular piece of news, what comes into your mind?

Thank god it wasn't me on that flight. Right? Alright, maybe I'm a little cynical. But nobody wants to hear about the other 99.99999% of the flights with no incidents. Media want to give you news that drives fear into you, because when you are in a state of fear, you become even more drawn to the news and that's good business for them.

But what else is fear doing to you? It is also driving negativity into you. And when you are in a fearful state, you naturally go into a fight, flight or freeze response. And your brain stops to think clearly. You start believing everything that the media tells you, you don't ask the right questions, and you get lost in a whirlwind of hopelessness and fearfulness.

So if you want to turn your life around. Here's what we suggest that you do. Turn off all news for 3 days. Trust us, you won't miss it. And if you really do, the updates will still be there 3 days from now.

We can guarantee you that you won't miss anything important. And what you will find, is that you become happier, your brain seems to spin a little faster, you sleep better, you smile more, you have more patience, and most importantly, you now have clarity in your life.

When you turn off the noise around you, the quietness will allow you to focus on yourself. Now, you can really get a feel of what you want in your life. What do you love to do? How do you want to spend your time? Who do you want to be with? Where do you want to be?

When you have clarity and positivity, you can build up your dreams and turn your dreams into reality. And don't worry about making your dreams too big. Remember, it doesn't take any more energy to dream a big dream than a small one.

So dream big.

Think about what you want in these areas of your life:

Your health and wellness - what is your definition of being healthy, and what would health give you? How do you want to feel and look?

Your business and career - what do you enjoy doing? How do you envision your business or your career to look like?

Your finances and assets - what kind of house do you want to live in? What do you want to drive? How much do you want to have in the bank for you to feel successful?

Your relationships and connections - who do you want to spend the rest of your life with? Who are the people that you want to spend your time with? How would your circle of friends help you grow and you would you help your circle of friends?

Your spare time and contributions - how much spare time do you want? What would you do with your time? What is your hobby? Where do you want to travel to? Do you want to be part of your community and how would you contribute to your community?

My suggestion for you. Block out an hour of your time. Find a quiet place, or lock yourself in a room. Don't bring your phone or computer or laptop. Bring a pen and a pad of paper with you. Start writing. There is something about writing things out that really drills the ideas into your brain. Start drawing out things you want. Better yet, read out loud as you write out your dreams. Your brain have to see and hear and really feel it so that it can fulfill your dream for you.

Be as specific as you can. If you don't know what your destination is, you cannot map out a path to get there.

If you go to Google maps to get directions to 'Las Vegas'. Where would Google Map take you? Somewhere in Las Vegas, sure, but who knows where in Las Vegas. But if you put in a specific address. Say the Presidential Suite at the MGM Hotel in las Vegas. Now Google maps can get you precise directions on how to get there.

Your brain is much smarter than Google maps. If you can tell it where you want to be, it will figure out a path for you. The law of attraction will always work for you when you work the law of attraction.

So, stay off the news, be positive, and dream big. Next time I will tell you how to train yourself to process your thoughts properly.
